My friend Josh Mock inspired me to post this:
Think of 25 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically shaped your world.
Edit 3/20/2009 12:30pm: Yes I’m aware this list isn’t very trendy, but that wasn’t the point. I’m not going to lie and say that Refused’s “The Shape of Punk to Come” was on the list because the truth is that only “New Noise” was really revolutionary – and you know it. My only regret is that I was limited to 25. What I thought was going to be a fun half-hour project turned into an excruciating evening. The whittling down of my picks took hours and so I sought the help of my best friend from high school (and musical soul mate) and this is what he helped me come up with. (I did find it amusing that we agreed on almost EVERY band, but picked different albums…) Maybe eventually I'll expound more upon albums that had affect on me.
